- SIAM Fellow of Class 2019.
Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
- Paper ``Theory of Compressive Sensing via L1-Minimization: A Non-RIP Analysis and Extensions'' by Y. Zhang received the ``Excellent Paper Award'' in October 2016 from
the Journal of the Operations Research Society of China.
- Paper ``Augmented Lagrangian alternating direction method for matrix separation based on low-rank factorization'', by Y. Shen, Z. Wen and Y. Zhang, was awarded the Charles Broyden Prize for 2014 by the Journal of Optimization Methods and Software.
- Paper ``Li, Sun, Kelly and Zhang: A Compressive Sensing and Unmixing Scheme for Hyperspectral Data Processing, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. Vol. 21, pp. 1200-1210. 2012)'' was featured as one of the two highlight papers in
IEEE Signal Processing Magazine in September 2012.
- For the first time on Nov. 5, 2006, NASA successfully rotated the
International Space Station by 90 degree without using any costly
fuel. This novel Zero Propellant Maneuver was the result of a joint
research between by Draper Laboratory and Rice University, performed
by Dr. Bedrossian of Draper, and Sagar Bhatt (CAAM graduate student)
and Yin Zhang at Rice University. See the websites:

- The first recipient (May, 2003) of the Rice University Presidential
Award for Mentoring, a faculty award to recognize outstanding
achievement in mentoring students.
- The paper "Solving a class of semidefinite programs via nonlinear
programming" by Burer, Monteiro and Zhang (Math. Prog. Series A,
Vol.93, pp. 97-122, 2002) was determined in September 2003 by
ISI Essential Science Indicators as a "New Hot Paper"
- one of the most cited recent papers in the field of Mathematics.
