Conference Description

The Finite Element Rodeo is an important annual conference that brings together researchers and students interested in the implementation and theory of the general class of finite element methods for various applications. The 2012 Finite Element Rodeo is dedicated to Professor Graham Carey. Previous Rodeos are listed here.

Location

The workshop will take place on the campus of Rice University in Duncan Hall, McMurtry Auditorium (Room DCH 1055). Rice University campus maps are available (Ann & Charles Duncan Hall is building number 22 on the campus map).

Registration

The registration deadline for the participants planning to attend was February 21, 2012. The fees are $40. If you are a graduate student, the fees are waived. Last minute registration (not including the Friday night dinner) will be possible from 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm in front of the conference room. A list of participants can be found here.

Schedule

The conference will start at 1pm on Friday March 02, and end at 3:30pm on Saturday March 03. Talks will last 15mn including time for questions. There was a total of 37 talks. The list of speakers and the titles of their talks can be found here.

Parking on the Rice Campus

There are two visitor parking lots close to Duncan Hall. Please see campus maps. Parking rates for the visitor parking lots are posted on the Parking for Visitors web-page.

Parking – Friday, March 2, 2012

Participants can enter at Entrance #1, and turn left at the stop sign to park in the lot marked L (Founder’s Court). If the lot is full, drivers should reroute to the Central Campus Garage (#51 on map).

Parking – Saturday, March 3, 2012

Due to the Stride4Stroke Run & Walk scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. parking options will be slightly different.

Participants arriving before 8:30 a.m. can still enter at Entrance #1 and:

  1. Turn left at the stop sign to park in the L lot (Founder’s Court)
  2. or
  3. Turn right at the stop sign to park in the smaller L lot.

If both lots are full or you arrive after 8:30 a.m., the ONLY available alternate parking will be on Rice Blvd. at entrance # 20 or # 21 in the North Lot.

Dining

During the conference, meals will be served in Duncan Hall in front of the auditorium. There is a conference dinner on Friday evening and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

For other meals, Houston offers a huge selection of restaurants. For example, there are several restaurants in the Rice Village just east of Rice University, approx. 1.5 miles from Duncan Hall and from the Hilton Houston Plaza/Medical Center.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

From February 28, 2012 to March 18, 2012, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will take place at the Reliant stadium, not too far from Rice University.
